Introduction

• We can subdivide seismic inversion methods into three general categories: wave equation inversion, travel-time inversion, and amplitude inversion.

• Today I will focus on the history and current practice of amplitude inversion.

• Our goal is to transform seismic traces into “pseudo” well log measurements, from which we can infer properties such as porosity and fluid content.

• Let’s start by looking at some rock physics.
