Introduction
We can subdivide seismic inversion methods into three general categories: wave equation inversion, travel-time inversion, and amplitude inversion.
Today I will focus on the history and current practice of amplitude inversion.
Our goal is to transform seismic traces into “pseudo” well log measurements, from which we can infer properties such as porosity and fluid content.
Let’s start by looking at some rock physics.
