• This has been an overview of the seismic trace inversion method.

• We motivated the discussion by first looking at the basic rock physics.

• We then discussed the convolutional model of the seismic trace.

• We next considered the recursive approach to inversion and applied this method to a gas sand from Alberta.

• The limitations of this method were poor wavelet handling and low frequency loss.
